Change background image and/or color

Hi,

I purchased the Fireworks template, and I thought that when it was advertised that there are multiple color themes to choose from, the color of the whole template changes. I'm new to webdesign. Unfortunately, I figured out later that only the font color and menu banners change color. I need to change the color of the whole background image, and the color of the frame where the images slide.
One way is to get the background image as it is now, and change the color in GIMP or Photoshop (don't know where teh background image is..I tried looking for it in the public_html folder of my website, under images, and didn't see it) Is there a different way?
Would you please give me advice on how I can accomplish the final task of changing the color of the background image, or replacing it with a difference background image.

Thank you!

Bori

Hi Bori,

Sorry about that, but the first two of our templates (It Starts and Fireworks) doesn't allow change of colors in template parameters. However, you can do it by modifying CSS.

Please change background picture /templates/hot_fireworks/images/stripe.png

Also, please change color of the "body" tag in file layout.css (it's set to black #000000 by default).

Hi Milos,

Thank you for the quick reply. I followed your instructions and changed the background image, and the color tag in body, but there is no change. When I enter "Edit CSS" in Joomla for this template, next to "Layout" it says in red "unwritable". Is that the reason? Is there something I can do?

Thank you!

Hi Bori,

You should CHMOD the css files to be writable (777) using FTP software. Then you can edit them. Your server admin should be able to assist you with resolving this if you can't do this yourself.

Hi

I prefer not to change the mode to 777. Can I edit the template with Kompozer? Thanks.

You can chmod files to 755, but make sure that server (Apache) is owner of your files. Otherwise, you can't edit them.

I have never used Kompozer, but any code editor can be used for template edits.
