I went back to version 1.5.22. Now the plugin does not work for the gallery. Why? is activated!

There are separate plugins for Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 1.6. They are NOT compatible. Make sure you installed proper version.

I installed what I found in the template hot_photoportfolio. What should I check? now my joomla version is 1.5.22

Version for 1.5 is "plg_hot_photo_gallery.zip" and version for 1.6 is "plg_hot_photo_gallery16.zip".

There could be 1001 possible reasons... So please use HotStart to reinstall site and it will work guaranteed.
