You need to configure module assignment so it does not display it on single article page. Problem is that you would need to have menu item for each article so you could set it because joomla will take settings from default page. You could create dummy menu you would not display but that would be extreme measure. Instead try this create menu item for category that item belongs to and set module not to display for that menu item.
