Although I am using Virtual Mart as a catalogue, I still get "Ask a question about this product" button. How do I disable this?

You can disable this in VirtueMart configuration.

My bad, unfortunately there's not such option, but you can edit file /components/com_virtuemart/themes/hot_furniture/templates/product_details/flypage_hot_furniture.tpl.php in plain text editor (such as Notepad) and remove this part:
