Joomla 3.0 Hot-Cars Template installations

I did what others have said to successfully install Joomla 3.0 w/godaddy.com
I created new php and php5 files. Loaded the Hotstart manually as well as through Joomla.
Made all the appropriate permissions to 755 and 644.

I seem to be good but I can't get anything other than the standard "creating your site" default page.
In the backoffice of joomla I made sure that my modules were published to areas of the home page but they still don't show up. I can only think that the installation is goofed by file structure or something.

I can tell you I never imagined it would be this hard to get started.

I am not used to my home page being a .php file, nor am I completely understanding the structure of Joomla is not passing the additions to the main pages modules is not cooperating.

Anybody have an idea of what I am doing wrong?
