Need help installing demo

Hello everyone.

I have a couple of questions.

After installing HotCars on 1.5 and 1.6 I can't seem to figure out which is the better one to use and actually how to use the template. Does this template work better on either of them? I am new to Joomla and can't seem to be able to create the mega menu or use any of the modules.

I tried to install the Demo pack, but again I am new to all of this and could not understand how to accomplish that. I opened Filezilla, and I uploaded the demo pack, but was lost after that.

If I could figure out how to create everything on my own I would not need the demo, but I am so lost. I would appreciate help.

I am using Joomla 1.6 right niw.

Just for an example. I installed 1.6 and the Hot Cars template with no demo data at all. Clean install.

The Main Menu does not show up. There is a "HOME" heading but no menu. I added other menu items attached to new articles I made, but the menu just doesnt show up on the screen.

Here is a look at what my home page is right now. All I have done is created those two uncatergorized articles. I didn't change anything else.

I assume that you already have created module of type mod_mainmenu and that you have put it in user 3 module position.
if not do that using online reference you can find by googling.

Set parameter "Menu Name" to "topmenu"
Set parameter "Menu Style" to list
Set parameter "Menu Class Suffix" value to "mega"
Set parameter "Always show sub-menu Items" to "Yes"

Ok, I have the menu activated, BUT now I am trying to add the hot effects rotator. I have it in user2 but then the menu disappears. i will attach a screenshot of when the menu was up and when I add the hot effects rotator. (I just used the Joomla graphic to test out the rotator)
