So I changed those two links and checkout now works but I can't get the add to cart buttons to work unless I use www in the url. I know it's really simple but I just want it to work smoothly. Thank you.

Remove www. from links in virtuemart.cfg.php

This is known issue. VirtueMart works only with or without www, depending what you enter in virtuemart.cfg.php file.
