joomla events templates

Pls I like to:

1. Reduce the space in between the header and menu. see the attached file - "space"
2. Reduce the font size and change the color
3. Background module does not display. See the attached file "module"

In layout.css:

Decrease height of header
.header {
height: 220px;
margin: 0 auto;
}

Decrease height of menu bar
#topmenu {
height: 60px;
float: left;
width: 80%;
}

there is no background set for two modules down
