I have unpublished the articles on the front page but cannot find where I remove or edit this headline. What I would like to do is replace it with the text from the about us page. Is that possible?

You can change it in Extensions > Templates > hot_construction > Layout > Row Settings (next to appropriate row) > Row Heading (Subheading).

How do I remove it entirely from the home page? ?

Simply delete the heading text from Extensions > Templates > hot_construction > Layout > Row Settings (next to appropriate row) > Row Heading (Subheading).

I'm missing something here, I'm following the path:
Extensions > Templates > hot_construction > Layout >
And I cant see a "Row Settings" anywhere, and I'm using both possible path's:
1 - Extensions > Templates >STYLES> hot_construction >
2 - Extensions > Templates >TEMPLATES >hot_construction >

I am sorry, you should go to Menus > Top Menu > Home > Page display.
