Exactly. The small image is set as the "Intro image" and the large image is set as the "Full article image".

Menu item type is "Articles » Featured Articles"
Also maybe you have set something for article options that disables them

The original installation did not have the menus setup as you suggested above, but I did try it anyway.
Now it publishes all the articles on the home page in addition to the Education page, but doesn't effect the size of the images; which are still wrong.
Could you tell me how the articles and the menus are setup on the demo site? I have got to find an answer for this and get it fixed.

Maybe best you install hot start locally then compare configuration between your site and hot start site

That may work. How do I install Hot Start locally? I've never done that.

So you create folder for site and unpack content of ..hot_start.zip to that folder. That is actually whole joomla. Then you create site on that folder form your web server component. Remember to install sample data during installation.
