How do our templates work?
A template for Joomla is a piece of software that combines multiple files of multiple types. First, there are PHP files that do all the calculations necessary to create a layout of a website that will be rendered in a browser. Second, there are CSS files that control how this website will look, which fonts it will use, and what colors, etc. Third, there are JavaScript files that add interactive elements to the website, such as drop-down menus or slideshows.
In order to standardize all that's said above and let our template users control the layout and look and feel of any website based on our template, without writing a single line of code, we developed a framework that is used as a base for all our templates. This framework is well-known as the Sparky Framework, and details about it, as well as the documentation, can be found on our website.
So, each template contains the Sparky Framework, which is used as a base, and a child template that contains all the design elements that bring a unique look to each of the templates. If you need to change a font, color, or even a layout, you go to the template options page where you can customize the template from a standardized control panel.
What is in the template package?
Each template package contains all the demo data that you can see on our demo site. If you follow the template installation guide, you can replicate any template demo on your hosting space. Anything you can see on our demo will be copied in all details.
That said, let's elaborate on what files you can actually download for each of the templates:
- Quickstart installation is a full Joomla package, based on the latest Joomla version. The core package contains the framework and template files, modules, and media (images and videos). After a successful Quickstart installation, you will get the entire demo site on your hosting space.
- Installable template files are used if you already have a website with a lot of data. These files can be installed into the existing Joomla website.
- Modules and plugins that are used on the template demo are also part of the template package. You can install some or all of these extensions on your website, depending on your needs.
- Design source files and fonts in Adobe Photoshop DWG format.
How to customize a Joomla template after installation?
Every website and every client has different needs. We can use the template with its demo data as a base point. However, the next logical step is to customize it. What is Joomla template customization? There are two types of customizations.
There are customizations that we are doing "under the hood", and they are made for the entire website. These customizations can be changes to the fonts, updates to the template colors, or changes to the website layout. All these changes are made on the template control panel that is part of the template framework mentioned above.
Other customizations are changes to text, images, videos, and other things on any website page. In order to help you with this, we have developed a page builder named the Sparky Page Builder. It is bundled with all newer templates from our collection and lets you edit the content visually. The page builder is intuitive, easy to learn and use.
